Ruth is a very adventurous soul whose life experiences have included swimming as a mermaid in underwater shows at Weeki Wachee Springs in Florida, working with the Flipper porpoises at Miami Seaquarium, living in Hawaii, setting National age-class records in Power Lifting, and doing an 11,000-mile motorcycle tour of the US on her Harley !!! The traits of curiosity, exploration and enterprise that motivated those adventures, are the same ones that fuel her incursion into the world of accessory art.
She grew up in Hazleton, Pennsylvania and currently resides in Olympia, Washington, along with her husband, Dave, who is a freelance Equestrian Instructor and Coach.
Ruth is a talented and industrious artist and craftswoman, who has worked very diligently at honing her skills, knowledge and experience, with the goal of producing One-Of-A-Kind Wearable Art. Her specialty is working with Precious Metal Clay and Wire-wrap. In conjunction with these two, she also utilizes her experience in Sketching, Photography, Airbrush Art, Lapidary, Glass Fusing, Torchwork Beads, Traditional Metalsmithing, and, would you believe, Australian Cake Decorating!
The vehicle of much of her educational foundation has been her association with PMC Connection, where, along with taking many classes, she ultimately became a Senior Instructor for the Northwestern part of the United States and Southwestern Canada for thirteen years. She has taught at numerous regional and national level PMC conferences, as well as the Art & Soul Artists Retreats, held annually in either Portland, Oregon or Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Outside of PMC Connection, she has also received instruction in other specialized areas to enhance the range of her experiences, among which are; Faux Bone, Torchwork Beads, Traditional Metalsmithing, Silversmithing, South African Spoons, Chain Maille, Viking Knit Chains. and Beading.
Another valuable source for her knowledge base comes from her own penchant for experimentation, (aka ‘trial and error’), as well as what she gleans in the process of her teaching.
Such an eclectic repertoire has led to a considerable variety in her work, which runs the gamut from delicate to bold, ethnic to modern, and practical to whimsical.
And, as much as Ruth enjoys the process of her own creations, she also gets a great deal of satisfaction from the pleasure and empowerment that others receive when they find out that they too, can do similar things. She revels at the prospect of growth in her own education as a craftswoman and artist, as well as facilitating the same for others.
Currently her primary teaching locations are Shipwreck Beads in Olympia and Tacoma Metal Arts in Tacoma. Her work can be seen at Splash Gallery in Olympia Washington and Blessed Beyond Measure Gallery in North Carolina. And, of course the Gallery page on this site!
She is always available to answer questions, and guide the curious towards realistic resolutions to their queries, whether it be classes, tools, materials or techniques.
